I’ll be honest, my new year didn’t come with a burst of inspiration or a shitload of motivation. In fact, it was almost as if I was super motivated up until the clock struck midnight on January 1st. Ironically, I’ve never entered a new year with more goals, ideas, or plans. But I think that is exactly why I’m feeling a little more uninspired than usual – I became easily overwhelmed. I’m currently writing a book and, with a little less than 10,000 words, I have my days where I either don’t know what else to say or just simply don’t feel like talking about surviving your 20s. However, because I know it needs to be released on time, I’ve been trying to figure out ways to achieve inspiration without just sitting around and waiting for it to come back. I came across Marc and Angel Chernoff’s post on Mentality WOD that lists quotes to remember when you’re feeling uninspired.

Your best music is still inside you.

 “That music you hear inside you motivating you to take risks and follow your dreams is your instinctive calling to the true purpose in your heart and mind.” It’s important to always tune into the music and by music, I mean what’s inside of you. Tune back into what grounds you, what motivates you, what keeps you going, why you started, etc. Once you remember and feel those things, you’ll be back to working towards your goals.

It’s never too late to be who you could have been.

“Entertain every thought, say every word, and make every decision from their point of view.” If you’re not who you wish to be just yet, let that be enough inspiration to continue. Wake up everyday and strive to become that person.

You are greater than the problems you face.

“Let the problems come, and let the problems go.” It’s easy to feel uninspired when you’re constantly focusing on the things that went wrong. Life will be life which is why the only but greatest thing we have control over are our thoughts about it.

Challenges are simply opportunities.

“When you come across a challenge, it means you have reached an opportunity for growth.” What better way to feel inspired than a new opportunity to conquer a challenge? You get to see what you’re made of! Accept the challenge as an opportunity to get one step closer to the person you’re aiming to be.

Tough times serve a purpose.

There’s no excuse for giving up on your goals.

“If you have the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed.” I truly believe that if something is placed on your heart, there’s a damn good reason for it.

There’s nothing more inspiring than knowing there was a problem in this world and you were created to be the person to fix it or to inspire someone who can.

You are closer than you were yesterday.

“The moment you’re ready to quit is usually the moment right before a little miracle of progress happens.” It’s easy to get discouraged when it seems like nothing you do can get you to where you want to be. However, you must remember that no matter how hard you work, how many nights you don’t sleep, how many times you choose to work on your craft over hanging with friends, things still happen when they are supposed to. Although it may not seem like it, everyday is literally a step closer to your goal as long as you keep doing your part.

Your opinion of YOU is what’s important.

“Your life is a living expression of who you know yourself to be, regardless of what others think or see.” Don’t let what others think of you discourage you. Are you proud of yourself? Are you happy? Do you feel a lot further than where you were a few months ago? Those are the only opinions that matter.

It’s OK to let some people walk away.

“You don’t have control over the things people say about you, but you do have control over how you decide to internalize it.” Everyone won’t support, love, or even care about you as much as you’d like. If they decide to walk away then let them. There’s no sense in holding on to someone who doesn’t want to be there.

There’s a lot to appreciate in this moment.

“Your journey will be much lighter and easier if you don’t try to carry your entire past and future around with you.”

Of course you’re uninspired, you’re still trying to fix what can’t be fixed and/or stress over what doesn’t even exist yet. Appreciate where you are and the power you have over this moment.
