Frank Ocean isn’t the only one who can give us what the streets been missing – mama gotta drop too! Some people say weed activates the melanin, but after appearing on Frank Ocean’s new album, Blonde, and encouraging him to never take weed because it will make him stupid, sluggish, and unconcerned, this anti-drugs advocate gave people of color something else for their melanin – UnSun. Katonya Breaux Riley created a sunscreen for people of color for the same reason people of color always invent things for people of color – she realized that the sunscreens on the market now just doesn’t cater to the people who look like her. UnSun is “a lightweight broad spectrum face sunscreen that is perfectly mineral tinted to blend in with multiple skin tones that range from fair to olive to the darkest of chocolate.” After two years of becoming educated on how to make a sunscreen, OTC, and testing, UnSun was born.
Although higher levels of melanin provides a little more protection against sun damage and aging, do not be confused – people of color need sunscreen too! Don’t forget to grab UnSun Sunscreen next time you head to the beach; it’s SPF30 with natural ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil.
Congrats Katonya and Frank on both of your newest accomplishments!
