Lyft just made getting to the grocery store a lot easier! Through their Grocery Access Program, families living in food deserts will now be able to request a ride to their nearest grocery store for $2.50 each way. Kicking off in Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, D.C, Lyft’s new access program has partnered with Martha’s Table to give families access to healthier foods. Wards 7 and 8 is home to over 150,000 residents but only three stores. This creates a food desert, or a place that is void of fresh fruits, vegetables and other whole foods. Thanks to Lyft and D.C-based non-profit, Martha’s Table, families living in these areas will receive codes for 50 rides to shop for healthier foods.
