On this day in 1980, John Lennon was shot and killed in NYC by an obsessed fan named Mark David Chapman. The former member of the Beatles had given Chapman an autograph hours earlier when he came back and shot Lennon four times. John Lennon was considered the “intellectual Beatle” and the most outspoken. In 1966, he declared that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus and in 1972, he released, “Woman Is the N*gger of the World.” In 1975, he retired from the music business to spend more time with his family, Yoko Ono and their son, Sean. However, 5 years later and after making his comeback album, Double-Fantasy, Lennon was killed. Mark Chapman was considered borderline psychotic; however, instead of pleasing insanity, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 to life.
